Jiawei Shen at ASM National Meeting 2026
Poster title
Niche-Specific Resistance and Virulence Strategies in Staphylococcus aureus: A Global Genomic Perspective
A brief description of the poster
The findings of this study highlight ocular niche-specific gene traits, emergence of specific lineages, and differences in resistance profiles. The information helps to identify region-specific therapies, as well as possible differences in pathology.
A short reflection on the conference experience
My second time attending the Australian Society for Microbiology Annual Meeting, and it was another fantastic experience!
It was great to spend a few days in Melbourne with Professor Mark Willcox, Dr. Umme Laila Urmi, Teshome, Suleman Irfan, Nebiyat Feleke, and Biruk Bayleyegn, representing our lab and sharing our research.
One of the highlights was meeting peers from different institutions through the ASM scavenger hunt program. It was a fun way to connect, exchange ideas, and explore Melbourne city.
I also had the opportunity to present my poster and received valuable feedback from both senior researchers and fellow students. I am especially grateful to my supervisor, Professor Mark Willcox, for his support throughout the research and presentation preparation.
To top it all off, we enjoyed a lovely team dinner together, which was a wonderful chance to catch up outside the conference sessions.
