Teaching Philosophy

OPTM3105 - Disease Processes of the Eye 1
This course provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the disease processes affecting the eye, including microbial infections, inflammatory conditions, and their treatment strategies.

Our research group currently supervises 14 PhD students working on various aspects of ocular microbiology, antimicrobial development, and medical device research.
Research Areas:
- Development of peptide mimics as antimicrobial surface coatings
- RNA-seq analysis of the ocular surface
- Development of quantum dots to analyze the tear film
- Staphylococcus aureus antibiotic resistance analysis
- Pseudomonas aeruginosa antibiotic resistance analysis
- New ways of visualizing Acanthamoeba sp.
- Development of new antibiotics
